When DePaul University meet Sears Holdings Corporation |
In 1932, Mr. Kellstadt joined Sears as a general manager of retail stores in the Cleveland area. He was promoted to the company's headquarters in Chicago in 1946 and was named vice president in 1949 . In 1950 Kellstadt was appointed supervisor of Sears's southern region. At Sears business was never better, and for that year the company had sales of $4,036,153,139, paying a record of $2.64 per common share. That year Sears will spent $77 million on expansion, open 15 new stores. He was elected president in 1958 and chairman of the Board and Chief Executive officer in 1960.
His legacy of providing the best in goods and services is now carried on at DePaul University. The Kellstadt Foundation Trust was established in 1976 to support graduate business education. The DePaul Kellstadt Center for Marketing Analysis and Planning was established with a gift from the foundation. In 1992, the directors of the trust voted to liquidate the trust's holdings by donating the remaining funds to DePaul University's Graduate School of Business. The school was thus named in his honor. The university receives $9 million from The Kellstadt Foundation for the establishment of the Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. |
